Fillers
A filler is a solid strip, typically 3 in. or 6 in. wide, that closes the gap between a cabinet and a wall or between two cabinet runs. Because cabinets come in 3 in. width increments, almost every kitchen needs at least one.
Moldings
- Crown molding — finishes the top of wall and tall cabinets
- Scribe molding — thin, flexible trim that hides gaps where cabinets meet uneven walls and ceilings
- Light rail molding — conceals under-cabinet lighting
- Toe kick — finishes the base of the cabinet run
- Cove, quarter round, base board, outside corner, rope, and dentil molding — decorative and transitional trim
What is the difference between a filler and scribe molding?
A filler closes a wide gap. Scribe molding, at about 1/4 in. thick, hides a hairline gap and follows the contour of an irregular wall. Most installs use both.
