Standard Kitchen Cabinet Sizes Chart: Base, Wall & Tall Dimensions (2026)

Standard Kitchen Base Cabinet Dimensions Diagram Height DepthWhen planning a kitchen remodel, measurements are everything. Guessing the wrong size can lead to wasted money and a design that doesn't fit.

To help you plan effectively, we have compiled the ultimate Standard Kitchen Cabinet Sizes Chart. Whether you are using stock cabinets from a big box store or wholesale RTA cabinets from CNT Cabinetry, these industry standards apply.

Quick Reference: Cabinet Size Chart

Here is the breakdown of standard dimensions for the three main cabinet types:

Cabinet Type Standard Height Standard Depth Standard Widths
Base Cabinets 34.5" (36" w/ Counter) 24" 9" to 48" (3" increments)
Wall Cabinets 30", 36", 42" 12" 9" to 48" (3" increments)
Tall (Pantry) 84", 90", 96" 24" 18", 24", 30"

1. Base Cabinet Dimensions (The Foundation)

Base cabinets do the heavy lifting. They support your countertops, sink, and cooktop. Since they define the footprint of your kitchen, their depth is the most critical measurement.

  • Height: The standard box height is 34.5 inches. After adding a 1.5-inch countertop and shimming for level, the finished height is 36 inches.
  • Depth: Standard depth is 24 inches. (Note: The countertop usually overhangs by 1 inch, making the total depth 25 inches).
  • Width: Variable. They start at 9" (tray divider) and grow in 3-inch increments (12", 15", 18", etc.) up to 48".

2. Wall Cabinet Dimensions (The Uppers)

Wall cabinets provide storage for dishes and food. The key here is choosing the right height based on your ceiling height.

  • Depth: The standard is 12 inches deep. This ensures you don't hit your head while working at the counter below. (Fridge cabinets are deeper, usually 24").
  • Height: This depends on your ceiling:
    • 8-Foot Ceilings: Use 30" or 36" tall cabinets.
    • 9-Foot+ Ceilings: Use 42" tall cabinets for a floor-to-ceiling look.

3. Tall Cabinet Dimensions (Pantry & Oven)

Tall cabinets are used for pantries or built-in double ovens. They typically extend from the floor to the top alignment of your wall cabinets.

  • Height: 84", 90", or 96". Ideally, this should match the top height of your wall cabinets for a cohesive look.
  • Depth: Usually 24 inches deep to match base cabinets, but 12-inch shallow pantries exist for tight spaces.
📐 The "3-Inch" Rule:
Almost all standard kitchen cabinets come in width increments of 3 inches (e.g., 15", 18", 21"). If you measure a wall and have 4 inches left over, you will need a "Filler Strip" (typically 3" wide) to close the gap. Custom cabinets are the only exception.
